The Zone of Interest

The Zone of Interest is a provocative exploration of love and power set against the harrowing backdrop of Auschwitz. The story centres on Angelus Thomsen, a German officer, who finds himself irresistibly drawn to the wife of the camp's commandant, Paul Doll. Their illicit affair unfolds amidst the chilling realities of one of history's darkest chapters, raising profound questions about morality, desire, and the human condition.

Doll, increasingly suspicious of his wife's infidelity, grapples with his need for authority and control in a situation where traditional notions of power are rendered absurd by the surrounding atrocities. The tension escalates as the characters navigate their intertwined fates, revealing the fragility of human connections in the face of overwhelming evil.

“It is exceptionally brave…. Shakespearean…. It’s exciting; it’s alive; it’s more than slightly mad. As the title suggests, it is dreadfully interesting.” – Sunday Times
