The Plot

At the heart of the book is Anaximander's radical assertion that the Earth floats freely in space, challenging the prevailing beliefs of his time. The narrative unfolds to reveal his natural explanations for phenomena such as storms and earthquakes, offering insight into a mind that sought to rationalise the world through observation and reason. Rovelli meticulously examines Anaximander's philosophical framework, including his early notions of evolution, presenting a compelling portrait of a thinker ahead of his time.

The themes of knowledge, observation, and the quest for understanding permeate the text. Anaximander's belief that progress is made by the endless search for knowledge resonates throughout, inviting readers to consider the significance of scientific inquiry in their own lives.
