World Encyclopedia of Armoured Fighting Vehicles

THE WORLD ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ARMOURED FIGHTING VEHICLES An illustrated guide to armoured cars, self-propelled artillery, armoured personnel carriers and other AFVs from World War I to the present day Armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs) are a critical element of any armoured formation, giving tactical support to the tank. This fully updated book is an authoritative history and directory of armoured cars, personnel carriers and self-propelled artillery. The book begins with a lively history of AFVs from the start of the 20th century through to the present generation of lighter, faster and more agile vehicles. Next there are two directories forming an illustrated guide to over 180 AFVs. The first of these covers the period from 1900 1945 when the major types were evolving. The second directory focuses on the remarkable advances in AFV development post-war II, from the BMP-1 Infantry fighting vehicle and the Scud Missile System TEL to the Boxer Multi-role AFC and the Varta armoured personnel carrier. Detailed specification boxes are featured for every AFV, including country of origin, weight, dimensions, armament, powerplant, speed and range.
