Into the Crooked Place Series 2 Books Collection

The Into the Crooked Place Series begins in the perilous city of Creije, where magic is both a tool and a weapon. This collection brings together both books in Alexandra Christo's gritty YA fantasy duology: Into the Crooked Place and its sequel, City of Spells.

The Plot

The streets of Creije belong to the deadly and the dreamers, and four crooks know just how much magic it takes to survive there. Tavia is a busker ready to pack up her dark-magic wares and leave her crimes behind; Wesley is the closest thing the city has to a gangster; Karam is a warrior who guards the worst criminals by day and fights in the rings by night; and Saxony is a resistance fighter in hiding, set on revenge against those who destroyed her family. When Tavia unwittingly delivers a vial of dark magic to someone she cares about, she sparks the greatest conflict in decades, and the four outsiders must come together to save their home and the world, even though they can trust nobody, least of all each other. City of Spells, the second book of the duology, is set in a world thriving with black magic.

Themes

• Dark Magic: A single vial of dark magic, delivered by mistake, sparks the greatest conflict in decades.
• Trust and Betrayal: With enemies on every side, the four outsiders must work together without being able to trust one another.
• Unlikely Allies: Four very different outsiders are forced to come together, with their home and the world at stake.

“Christo offers the reader creative and thoughtful backstories for each protagonist, along with fully realized worlds rife with magic…” – Booklist, on Into the Crooked Place
