Description
The Girl Who LOVES Bugs by Lily Murray is a delightful exploration of childhood curiosity and the intricate world of insects. The story follows Evie, a young girl whose fascination with bugs leads her to prefer the wonders of nature over the mundane task of keeping pace with her family during walks.
The Plot
Evie’s adventurous spirit takes a turn when she decides to bring her beloved bugs indoors. As she attempts to keep her newfound friends close, chaos erupts when, on the very day her family (including her strict Great Gran) arrive to stay, Evie wakes to find the bugs have escaped. With bugs all over the house and fearsome Great Gran arriving, what is Great Gran going to say? It is a story about following your dreams and the unconditional love of family.
Themes
This charming tale celebrates curiosity and the importance of family bonds. Through Evie’s journey, young readers are encouraged to embrace their interests while also considering the feelings and expectations of those around them. The narrative beautifully illustrates the joys and challenges of childhood, making it relatable for both children and adults.
Writing Style
Murray’s story is hilarious and heart-warming, illustrated by Jenny Løvlie, and the book ends with ideas and tips for looking after some of your own bugs outside.
