The Reindeer Hunters

The Reindeer Hunters is a poignant tale set in the early 20th century, weaving together themes of loss, redemption, and the complexities of human relationships. The narrative unfolds in 1903, twenty-two years after the tragic death of Astrid Hekne during childbirth, leaving her son Jehans to navigate life alone on a secluded smallholding near Butangen.

The Plot

Jehans finds solace in the natural world, particularly through fishing and reindeer hunting. His solitary existence is disrupted when he unexpectedly encounters a stranger, a meeting that sets off a chain of events that challenges his understanding of family and connection. Concurrently, Pastor Kai Schweigaard, burdened by the weight of his past betrayals, tends to Astrid’s grave. His guilt over a historical tragedy, which resulted in the separation of two significant church bells, drives him to seek the elusive Hekne Weave, an ancient tapestry that holds the key to redemption.
