Frogs and Other Plays

Delve into the rich tapestry of ancient Greek theatre with Frogs and Other Plays by the renowned playwright Aristophanes. This collection brings together three of his comedies, including Frogs, a sharp and witty commentary on the state of Athenian drama and society.

The Story

In Frogs, written during the Peloponnesian War, Dionysus travels to the underworld to fetch a poet able to save Athens in its hour of crisis, staging a great contest between the traditional wisdom of Aeschylus and the brilliant modernity of Euripides. Wasps pits an old-fashioned father against his loose-living son, and in Women at the Thesmophoria Euripides, accused of misogyny, persuades a relative to infiltrate an all-women festival to discover whether anyone is plotting revenge against him.
