This challenge forces her to reconsider her future at Woolworths, leading her to contemplate resignation. Meanwhile, Ruby is deeply concerned for her friend Vera, whose illness brings a problem from her past flooding back, and Ruby knows it will take strength and willpower to do what needs to be done.

Freda, on the other hand, is filled with anticipation as she awaits the birth of her first child, but her joy is tinged with anxiety over whether her partner, Tony, will return in time for the momentous occasion.
