Undercover War

Undercover War delves into the complexities and challenges faced by the British Army during its longest campaign in Northern Ireland, a time marked by political tension and societal upheaval. With a gripping narrative, Harry McCallion paints a vivid picture of the soldiers' experiences as they confront a formidable and evolving force.

The Plot

McCallion recounts the ferocious, secretive struggle that Britain's Special Forces waged against the Provisional IRA for thirty years, from 1970 to 1998, far from the patrols, vehicle bombs and speeches that define popular memories of the Troubles. With new insights into high-profile killings, riveting accounts of enemy contact and revelations about clandestine missions and the strategies used against the IRA, it is an inside story of the longest campaign in the British Army's history.
