Description
In Hazure Skill: The Guild Member with a Worthless Skill Is Actually a Legendary Assassin, Vol. 1, readers are introduced to Roland, an assassin who seems destined for greatness after defeating the demon lord. Yearning for a peaceful existence, he takes a job at the local Adventurers Guild, hoping to avoid fame and fortune and live a normal life.
The Plot
Roland's aspirations for a mundane life soon run into trouble, as he has little idea what an ordinary life really looks like and is anything but an average employee. With all manner of adventurers coming through the guild to turn in their quests, fitting in proves a daunting task. As he grapples with his identity and attempts to embrace a quieter life, Roland's journey uncovers the complexities of self-acceptance and of escaping fame.
Themes
This manga delves into themes of identity and the contrast between personal desires and societal expectations. It raises questions about what it means to be 'normal' and challenges the notion that one's worth is determined solely by their skills. The interactions between Roland and his fellow guild members offer humorous yet poignant reflections on friendship and belonging.
Writing Style
Kennoji's storytelling is both engaging and thought-provoking, blending action with moments of introspection. The art style complements the narrative, capturing the whimsical yet serious undertones of Roland's journey. Fans of fantasy titles that explore character development will find much to appreciate in this series.
