A Tidy Ending

A Tidy Ending by Joanna Cannon presents a gripping tale of mystery and the complexities of human nature. Set against the backdrop of Cavendish Avenue, the story centres around Linda, a seemingly ordinary woman who leads a quiet life with her husband, Terry. Her routine existence is punctuated by an extraordinary aptitude for solving puzzles, which becomes increasingly relevant when unsettling events begin to unfold in her neighbourhood.

The Plot

Linda keeps herself to herself, but she sees things other people might overlook, and nothing on Cavendish Avenue is quite as it seems. When people start to go missing in the neighbourhood, Linda soon discovers that some secrets can't stay buried forever. Darkly funny and quietly sinister, the story explores the darkness that can hide beneath the surface of everyday life and the isolation of being an outsider.

Themes

The novel intricately weaves themes of perception, isolation, and the unsettling nature of ordinary life. It raises questions about how well we truly know those we live alongside and the facades that people maintain. Through Linda's journey, readers are invited to reflect on the hidden depths of human relationships and the often overlooked complexities of seemingly mundane lives.

Literary Merit

With its evocative prose and psychologically rich character development, A Tidy Ending will resonate with fans of authors such as Gillian Flynn and Paula Hawkins. The narrative's tension builds gradually, keeping readers on the edge of their seats as each revelation unfolds.
