A World of Curiosities

In A World of Curiosities, spring breathes new life into the quaint village of Three Pines, yet an unsettling air hangs over the community with the unexpected return of two figures from a troubled past. Renowned Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and his trusted partner Jean-Guy Beauvoir find themselves immersed in a complex mystery that intertwines the fates of a brother and sister, both haunted by the shadow of their mother’s tragic murder during their childhood.

The Plot

As the villagers prepare for a special celebration, Gamache and Beauvoir grow increasingly worried about why the pair have come to Three Pines. Then a letter from a long-dead stonemason is found, describing his terror as he bricked up an attic room somewhere in the village. When the room is found and opened, it holds a world of curiosities, with puzzles within puzzles and hidden messages warning of mayhem and revenge. In unsealing it, an old enemy is released into the villagers’ lives and into the heart of Gamache’s own home. The story explores themes of memory and the inescapable nature of history.
