The Other Shore

The Other Shore is a profound exploration of the teachings of Buddhism as articulated by the revered monk and teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh. In this new translation of the Heart Sutra with commentaries, Hanh demystifies the foundational teachings of the Buddha.

The Story

In this enlightening work, Hanh offers his new English translation of the Heart Sutra, one of the most important and well-known Buddhist sutras, completed in September 2014, together with commentaries based on his interpretation. He believes the patriarch who first compiled the sutra did not use language skilfully enough to capture the Buddha's intention, leading to fundamental misunderstandings of Buddhism for almost 2,000 years. By revealing that original intention, Hanh makes clear what it means to transcend duality and pairs of opposites, such as birth and death, and helps demystify the term emptiness.

Why Readers Love It

• Hanh's accessible reading effortlessly conveys complex philosophical concepts.
• The book serves as both a guide and a source of inspiration for those seeking spiritual growth.
• Readers appreciate the clear commentaries interwoven with profound spiritual insights.
