Blotto, Twinks and the Conquistadors' Gold

Blotto, Twinks and the Conquistadors' Gold takes readers on a thrilling escapade through the war-torn republic of Jalapeno, Mexico, where the aristocratic siblings, Blotto and Twinks, find themselves embroiled in a web of conflict and intrigue.

The Plot

Twinks, seeking a respite from her mother’s relentless matchmaking, travels to visit her old friend, Begonia Guiteras. Her intentions of working on an Aztec excavation take an unexpected turn when her visit coincides with the War for Jalapeno Independence, led by Colonel Henriquez Guiteras, Begonia’s father. As tensions rise, Twinks' archaeological pursuits lead her to uncover tantalising hints of a hidden treasure—a hoard of gold left behind by the Conquistadors.

The narrative cleverly intertwines themes of family loyalty and the allure of adventure, as Twinks digs deeper into the mysteries of the past. When Blotto, missing his sister, follows her to Mexico, the pair discover that Begonia has been kidnapped by government forces and set out to rescue her, facing chases, capture and the threat of a firing squad, while the dig raises fears of the dreaded Curse of Attatotalloss. Simon Brett’s witty prose and sharp characterisation bring to life a cast of memorable figures, making this tale both engaging and thought-provoking.
