Dune Sequels Collection

Set in the intricate universe created by Frank Herbert, the Dune Sequels Collection invites readers to delve deeper into the saga. This collection brings together Hunters of Dune and Sandworms of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, exploring themes of power, ecology, and the human spirit as a band of refugees searches the universe for a new Dune.

The Plot

Fleeing the monstrous Honored Matres, dark counterparts of the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood, Duncan Idaho, the military genius Miles Teg, Sheeana, who can talk to sandworms, and a group of desperate refugees roam the edges of the universe aboard their no-ship. Using long-stored cells, they have brought back heroes and villains from the past, including Paul Muad'Dib, to prepare for a final confrontation with a mysterious outside Enemy. In Sandworms of Dune, that Enemy is revealed: the thinking machines defeated in Serena Butler's jihad were only driven into exile, and now, tens of thousands of years later, they have returned. The narrative is rich with complex motivations and moral ambiguity, inviting readers to ponder the consequences of leadership and the burden of destiny.

Themes

Central to the sequels are themes of survival, resurrection, and the intricate relationship between humanity and its environment. The exploration of ecological concerns is particularly poignant, as the refugees carry the last surviving sandworms from devastated Arrakis in search of a new home.
