The Plot

The set opens with The Dark Hours, also by Michael Connelly.

In Desert Star, Renée Ballard is given the chance to revive the LAPD's cold case unit, provided she can first solve an unsolved murder, and she wants Harry Bosch on her team. But Bosch has his own agenda: the murder of an entire family, buried in the desert, a case that has haunted him for years.

Finally, in The Waiting, Ballard gets a DNA match in a serial rape case that has gone unsolved for twenty years, but the suspect it points to is the last person anyone would want to accuse. Maddie Bosch, Harry's daughter, joins the cold case unit as a volunteer, with motives of her own.
