Accidental Death of an Anarchist

Accidental Death of an Anarchist is a masterful satirical play by renowned playwright Dario Fo, weaving a complex tale that critiques the absurdities of political power and authority. A sharp and hilarious satire on political corruption, the farce turns on the case of an anarchist railway worker who died in 1969 after a supposed fall from a police headquarters window, and unfolds through a series of outrageous and comedic twists.

The Story

In its first two years of production the play was seen by more than half a million people, and it has since been performed all over the world. Fo's attack on government cover-up, manipulation and mendacity showcases the chaos of the political climate, while also providing poignant commentary on the nature of truth and justice. This version, translated by Simon Nye, updates and relocates the play close to contemporary England; it premiered at the Donmar Warehouse, London, in February 2003, and comes with commentary and notes by Joseph Farrell.
