The Plot
Set in 1660, the story follows Colonel Edward Whalley and Colonel William Goffe, two regicides found guilty of high treason for the killing of King Charles I. With a reward on their heads, dead or alive, the two men flee across the Atlantic, while in London Richard Nayler, secretary of the regicide committee of the Privy Council, embarks on a relentless quest to bring them to justice.
The narrative unfolds against a backdrop of political turmoil, highlighting the themes of justice, survival, and the profound consequences of one’s decisions during a time of societal upheaval. As the hunt unfolds, Harris invites readers to ponder the weight of history and the personal struggles that define it.
