The Plot

As Guyon, lord of Ledworth, rides home in Wales at the turn of the twelfth century, bound to marry Judith of Ravenstow, a woman he has yet to meet, he is not merely traversing the rugged terrain; he is navigating a treacherous landscape filled with deceit and danger. The other books turn to new characters: Heulwen, daughter of the Marcher baron Guyon FitzMiles, torn between duty and love in 1126, in The Running Vixen; Lady Christen, forced in 1069 to marry the Norman lord Miles Le Gallois, in The Coming of the Wolf; and Renard, heir to Ravenstow, summoned home from crusade to an ailing father and an arranged marriage. Each of the four books reveals the complexities of loyalty and ambition in a time when trust is a rare commodity. The series expertly weaves together personal conflicts with broader societal issues, creating a rich tapestry of narrative that captivates the reader.
