Description
Welcome to the Peculiar Antique Shop: The Art of Makurakurama is the first collection of work by the creator Makura Kurama, bringing together short stories, comics and illustrations from a world full of darkness and beauty. Makura Kurama's short story comic The Peculiar Antique Shop: Plague Doctor and Mrs. Antlers was released on Twitter in 2018.
The Stories
The owners, guests, neighbours and other characters who appear in the antique shop each carry grief, fear or pain in their hearts. Gothic costumes and motifs such as skeletons, dolls, corpses, taxidermy and natural specimens, along with love, give the stories a dark, fantastical atmosphere, yet they never become hopeless tragedies.
Themes
- Light in the Darkness: A sense of hope runs through every story, bringing a redemptive element.
- Darkness and Beauty: Gothic motifs set against refined artistry.
- Happy Endings: Stories that seem despairing at first but end in happiness.
Artistic Style
Makura Kurama's refined brushwork brings intricate detail to every page, drawing readers into the shop and its stories.
Fans of dark, fantastical art and storytelling will find a kindred spirit in this collection, where every page invites reflection and wonder.
