Description
In Find ME, Olwen Wymark delves into the complexities of identity, belonging, and the quest for truth. This compelling play invites audiences to look closely at one troubled young woman and at the effect her behaviour has on those around her.
The Story
At twenty, Verity is charged by the police with damaging a chair by fire in the mental hospital where she is a patient, and is later committed to Broadmoor, from where she may not be released without the Home Secretary's permission. Using a technique of multiple characterisation, Wymark sets out to investigate Verity's personality in depth, to 'find' her, while also studying how her behaviour affects the people around her.
Why Readers Love It
- Rich Characterisation: Wymark's characters are vividly drawn, each possessing a unique voice that resonates with authenticity.
- Themes of Connection: The play elegantly examines the threads that bind us, revealing how relationships can both uplift and confound.
- Inventive Form: Its technique of multiple characterisation builds a layered portrait of Verity.
