Description
This memoir explores Kit de Waal's childhood in a household marked by stark contrasts. Her mother, a chaotic figure, avoided traditional celebrations and worked multiple jobs while believing in an impending apocalypse. In contrast, her father indulged in lavish spending and cooking, always dreaming of a better life that never materialised. Growing up in 1960s Birmingham, Kit navigated her mixed Irish, Caribbean, and British heritage alongside her siblings, finding joy and creativity amid the challenges. The book offers a poignant reflection on family dynamics and the search for belonging.
