Oliver Sacks Collection (The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, Hallucinations, Awakenings)

Oliver Sacks' Collection brings together three of his most compelling works: The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, Hallucinations, and Awakenings. Each book offers a unique glimpse into the human mind, exploring the intricate relationships between neurology and personal identity.

The Plot

In The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, Sacks introduces us to a series of patients grappling with bizarre neurological disorders, each case revealing profound insights into the nature of consciousness and perception. From people who can no longer recognise everyday objects or those they love to those stricken with violent tics, Sacks masterfully blends clinical observation with rich storytelling.

The set also includes Hallucinations by Oliver Sacks.

In Awakenings, Sacks recounts the story of twenty patients, left catatonic by the sleeping-sickness epidemic that followed the First World War, who temporarily awoke after decades when he gave them the then-new drug L-DOPA. This poignant narrative highlights the resilience of the human spirit.

Themes and Style

Throughout these works, Sacks employs a compassionate and humanistic approach, inviting readers to ponder the complexities of neurological conditions. His eloquent prose and keen observations not only inform but also evoke empathy and understanding.
