Fatal Legacy

Fatal Legacy by Lindsey Davis immerses readers in the intricacies of ancient Roman society through the eyes of Flavia Albia, a determined investigator. An unpaid bar bill serves as the catalyst for her latest inquiry, leading her into a labyrinthine case surrounding the contentious will of Appius Tranquillus Surus. This will, which liberated his slaves and entrusted his enterprises to them, ignites fierce rivalry between the freedmen and the powerful Prisci family.

The Plot

As Flavia delves deeper, she discovers the original will has vanished, and claims of forged documents only heighten the stakes. The ensuing tensions threaten to erupt into chaos, mirroring the broader struggles for power and justice in Roman life. Amidst this turmoil, a poignant love story unfolds between Gaius Venuleius and Cosca Sabatina, two young lovers caught in the crossfire of their families’ animosities, daring to dream of a future together.
