Edward Bond Letters: Volume 5

In the fifth volume of Edward Bond Letters, readers are invited to delve into the complex mind of one of theatre's most provocative playwrights. This collection of letters not only reveals Bond's thoughts on the creative process but also offers an intimate glimpse into his life, philosophies, and the socio-political landscapes that have shaped his works.

The Story

As a continuation of the four previous volumes, this edition gathers more than thirty letters and papers in which Bond sets out his controversial views on violence and justice and writes about plays, writers and directors. He argues that all violence is the expression of an unbalanced and dangerous society, and while he is critical of present-day theatre, his observations also point to how theatre could be changed. Bond's own illustrations accompany the letters.
