Description
The Silent Twins is a compelling exploration of the extraordinary lives of identical twins June and Jennifer Gibbons, whose unique bond isolated them from the outside world. From a young age, they communicated solely with each other, creating a strange and secret world of their own.
The Plot
As they matured, the twins' profound connection manifested in increasingly troubling behaviours, leading them down a path of crime. A five-week spree of vandalism and arson ultimately resulted in a twelve-year detention at Broadmoor. The narrative unfolds through the meticulous research of investigative journalist Marjorie Wallace. Her insights reveal their genius, their alienation and the mystic bond between them.
Themes
- Isolation: The twins' retreat from society raises questions about the nature of communication and connection.
- Genius: Wallace reveals the genius the twins shared within their secret world.
- The Twin Bond: Love, hate and genius united the twins, pushing them to the extreme margins of society.
