The Plot

In this frank memoir, Fern Brady tells how she was diagnosed with autism twenty years after first telling a doctor she had it. Along the way she looks back on a difficult Catholic childhood, homelessness, stripping and nervous breakdowns, an unhappy time at university, and her attempt to cure her autism after being told she didn't look autistic, which led to an addiction to Xanax. With a sharp wit that entertains as much as it enlightens, she tackles the complexities of modern womanhood, making the reader laugh while prompting deeper introspection.
