Description
The Eleanor of Aquitaine Collection delves into the rich and tumultuous life of one of history's most formidable queens. Through the lens of Elizabeth Chadwick's skilful storytelling, readers are invited to explore the complexities of Eleanor's character, her political acumen, and her enduring legacy.
The Plot
This collection brings together all three novels of Chadwick's Eleanor of Aquitaine trilogy: The Summer Queen, The Winter Crown and The Autumn Throne. The Summer Queen, the first novel, introduces Eleanor as a young queen who has often been misunderstood.
The Winter Crown opens in 1154, as Eleanor is crowned queen of England beside her young husband, Henry II. An able acting ruler and mother to their growing family, she is pushed aside by Henry, who takes a young mistress and denies her rightful authority, until she is caught up in a family rebellion.
In The Autumn Throne, Eleanor is imprisoned by Henry and kept from her children until his death frees her to become dowager queen. She crosses the Alps in winter to bring Richard his bride, travels across Europe to ransom her son, and strives to keep the peace between her warring sons.
