Queer Shakespeare

Queer Shakespeare

The Story

Edited by Goran Stanivukovic, this anthology of 13 essays offers a major reassessment of criticism of desire, the body and sexuality in Shakespeare's drama and poetry. Bringing together prominent critics working where Shakespeare criticism meets queer theory, the essays treat embodiment, desire, sexuality and gender as key objects of analysis, drawing on focused studies of time, language and nature. Works from across Shakespeare's canon feature in essays on topics such as love, antitheatrical homophobia, female same-sex desire and Petrarchism, male femininity and male-to-female crossdressing, usury and sodomy, and contagion, while an Afterword links the Anthropocene and queer ecology with Shakespeare criticism.
